Our Story

Pop Art! Kids started when Rosie lived in Old Town, Alexandria. She would pack her car with sensory bins and set up in local parks, welcoming her community to come and get messy together. She first discovered sensory bins when her son was diagnosed with a rare genetic disease, DUP15Q Syndrome and knew she needed a way to help him through the pandemic when his early intervention services had been put on hold. She saw first hand the many benefits that sensory play had on his development. Ever since, she has continued growing her studio to build Pop Art! Kids into the most original and magical sensory and process art studio that welcomes children and their caregivers to create magical memories together.

What our Pop Art! kids community is saying about us

  • This is my 4th child and I have lived in 5 different countries since having kids and found nothing as special as this. Wow wow wow - well done!

  • We loved absolutely everything about our family painting session! It was an incredible family experience and we will cherish the art and the memories forever. The process was very well-planned yet there was an understanding that the children's creativity was the only 'rule-maker' to the creation of their masterpiece. I am very grateful for this magical experience and will recommend it to every family I know. Thank you, Rosie!”

  • L. had a lot of allergies and a lot of sensory aversions. When we started with art classes (he was 2) he would NEVER touch the wet station or anything with the paint. I tried to get him to the paint stations but it didn’t work. He was receiving therapy at the time but wasn’t making a huge amount of progress. Little by little, each semester we signed up for, he was getting more and more comfortable. Then his feeding therapist noticed how well he was doing touching new food textures.  Here is what Pop Art has done for him that therapy hasn’t (and this is coming from a therapist)  1 - Autonomy: he gets to pick the activities, how long he spends at an activity and what activities he can skip on that day.  2 - Watching his peers: Watching his peers (especially his sister) having fun doing something "hard" makes him more interested and more relaxed around an activity that would normally be scary  3 - Environment: the studio is so inviting and kid friendly.  The music and the colors are so relaxing to ‘L’ so he is excited to be there.  Thank you for bringing PopArt into our life.  Both ‘A’ and ‘L’ LOVE going to art and they are always so proud of their art work!  We Love PopArt!!!

Frequently Asked Questions

About Pop Art! Kids

Pop Art! Kids Policy

Refund policy:

For all sensory playgroups, pop-ups and summer camps: Written withdrawal requests need to be made 2 weeks before the start of your scheduled program to receive a full refund (minus the 3% processing fee).

Written withdrawal requests received after the 2 week window are not eligible for a refund or credit of any type unless deemed an emergency situation. These situations will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

If a program or session is closed by Pop Art! Kids, we will issue a full refund.

Make-up policy:

We do our best to accommodate 1 makeup per session per family, ONLY if a child is absent due to illness. Because our classes must be capped at a specific headcount, we can only accommodate a makeup student on certain days. Please email if you will be absent from class, so we can open a spot for a potential make-up.

Health protocols:

Please wash or sanitize hands (in our studio bathroom or hand washing sink, or use hand sanitizer by entrance) before class. Please remove shoes, indoor shoes/socks are allowed inside the studio for both children and caregiver. Please stay home if you or your child are experiencing symptoms that may spread to others. We clean & sanitize our studio daily both in between classes and at the last class of the day.

Supervision policy:

For all playgroup programming, a responsible caregiver is required to attend with the child. This must be an active supervision at all times, maintaining visual and auditory contact with their child by strategically positioning themselves to observe their children within their care. Caregiver should be intervening promptly to address any potential safety concerns and ensuring appropriate behaviors are maintained. If a child is not properly supervised there will be a case by case basis for determining next steps to ensure that child is safely able to attend the program. In instances where the supervision policy is not followed, no refund will be given for the remainder of the session and approval will need to be given to re-enroll.

Allergies:

We use many food grade products in the studio, including but not limited to beans & legumes, rice, flour, salt and pasta. We are a nut free studio! Please let us know before your class if you have an allergy you are concerned about!
